My Morning Jacket conquered Athens’ Georgia Theatre last year on a tour promoting its latest LP, The Waterfall. Now that the band is taking a much-deserved break from relentless touring, lead guitarist Carl Broemel returns to town to offer audiences a cozier performance at the Caledonia Lounge. Although it still offers plenty of reverb, Broemel’s recently released solo offering, 4th of July, is a collection of shimmering songs that are a bit more subtle than the explosive jamming usually found on My Morning Jacket releases. Local luthier Scott Baxendale has recently enlisted Broemel as one of his clients, so there will undoubtedly be plenty of opportunities for guitar gear geekery.
