According to Merge Records, Jeff Mangum has announced a new leg of US tour dates, and this time around Athens made the cut! The Elephant 6 stalwart and Neutral Milk Hotel frontman had kept out of the public eye for many years, but his recent reemergence has already been heralded with critical acclaim. Mangum will play the 40 Watt Club on Friday, Feb. 10 and Saturday, Feb. 11. Tickets are $26 and will go on sale Friday, Nov. 11 at noon online via www.TicketAlternative.com. There will also be a small number of tickets available at Wuxtry Records downtown. The show hasn’t yet been posted to www.40watt.com, but check back to the venue’s site later this week for more details.
Mangum actually already played in Athens this year, but many fans didn’t learn of his performance until after the fact…He was a surprise guest at the AUX fest in May, wearing a mask and making lots of noise as a part of an experimental performance art piece. In February 2012, we assume, he will arrive unmasked and playing the songs his fans know and love…
Just for kicks, here’s the setlist from his Oct. 29 gig at Town Hall in NYC… perhaps this will give us an idea what to expect.
