“Big city culture in a small town.” And it has been said about Athens so often that it is at the point that I offer it to you as the new tagline, but Athens has always been missing one essential pillar of the big city—the love of clothes. That’s where the so-called Athens Fashion Collective comes in. In effect, the Athens Fashion Collective has single-handedly been bringing proper clotheshorse culture to Athens, GA. For two straight seasons, the group haS been putting on elaborate multimedia events that celebrate local art with wild installations, pretty girls, beautiful clothes, and, of course, great music. This Thursday, Nov. 10, the art collective will be presenting its third fashion show—and from the looks of it, it will be the group’s most ambitious yet. Here’s the low-down:
1. A show by Gretchen Elsner featuring live performance/ music by Killick
2. A show by local boutique Community featuring music by powerkompany.
3. A listening party for powerkompany’s debut record. powerkompany is husband and wife duo Marie Davon of the lovelorn slow-core band Venice is Sinking, and Andrew Heaton of Packway Handle. See our feature story in this week’s Flagpole.
4. Multi media arts gallery and party with DJing by Paul Nunn, cash bar and catering from Mama’s Boy.
5. Free!
