The University of Georgia chapter of the NAACP is planning a “peaceful march and vigil honoring” Michael Brown, the African American teenager who was shot and killed by white police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, MO.

The march starts at the Arch at 5:30 p.m. and will make its way to the Tate Student Center on campus, about a mile away.

In addition, Avid Bookshop will host Decatur lawyer Robbin Shipp, author of Justice While Black, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. The book offers African American men advice on how to navigate the criminal justice system.

The Athens chapter of the NAACP and Athens For Everyone held a Ferguson solidarity rally at the Arch last week.
