BRING YR OWN MASON JAR: The fourth annual Wildwood Revival is slated to happen Aug. 18–20 at hosting ground Cloverleaf Farm. As this event has grown, more activities and features have been added (Yoga! Karaoke!), but its core attraction and raison d’être remains its live-music lineup. Building on a solid past, this year’s Revival will feature Shakey Graves, The Darnell Boys, JD McPherson, The Cactus Blossoms, Nicole Atkins, The Bones of J.R. Jones, Durand Jones & The Indications and many more. VIP passes—some of the only ones I’ve ever seen that are a good deal and actually grant substantial access to limited amenities—are already sold out. Certain camping availability is gone, too, but some is still available. If you want to attend, there are still $80 weekend passes available, but I guarantee these will sell out, too, so hop on it. FOUNDER’S DAY: Randall Bramblett will return to Athens to play a solo acoustic show at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia Tuesday, Aug. 15. Tickets are $10 for garden members, $15 for non-members and $5 for kids. The show runs 7–9 p.m. and is part of the garden’s Sunflower Concert Series. In other news, Bramblett—whose place in Athens music history is solidly assured—has a new album out titled Juke Joint at the End of the World courtesy of New West Records. This record is another taste of Bramblett’s signature jazz/soul/blues/rock sound, which he’s perfected since the 1970s. His discography is much too large to mention here, but if there are any among you who have a desire to learn more about Athens’ music history, you’ll go look it up. SPEND MONEY HERE: Tickets and passes are still on sale for the upcoming Athens Popfest, which runs Wednesday, Aug. 9–Saturday, Aug. 12. I’ve seen these shows sell out before, and trust me when I say literally no one will care about your indie-rock tears if you miss out because you just happened to blank out for five months while tickets were on sale. Things are slightly different this year, so heads up. The shows are spread across Little Kings Shuffle Club, The World Famous, the Georgia Theatre and the 40 Watt Club. Only those holding full festival passes are guaranteed entry to day shows at Little Kings and Wednesday night’s show at the 40 Watt. Those wishing to attend these on an individual basis will pay at the door. No individual pre-sale tickets are available for these events. Tickets are on sale, however, for night shows at the Georgia Theatre. Wanna know a good strategy? Spring for the full pass. Even if you miss a show or two, it’s still by far the best deal in terms of convenience and access. PRESS ON: Hey, gang, the wait seems to be over at Kindercore Vinyl headquarters. Last week, the vinyl pressing plant—the latest and most wildly ambitious project from the company in the 21 years since Ryan Lewis and Dan Geller came up with that name—announced it would begin taking orders Aug. 15. Currently, there’s no price list or product categories on the company’s website, but I saw the preliminary pricing structure a few months ago, and I can honestly say it’s completely in line with current industry standards and, in some cases, even better. Another obvious plus of working locally with guys you know is errors, corrections, confusion and frustration can be sorted out quickly and easily. NO PARKING: Garage-ish rock dudes The Grawks will release their new album All That Lasts Aug. 12 at the 40 Watt. The bill this night includes Shehehe (also releasing a new record—look for more info next week), Palace Doctor and Jacksonville’s Twinki. As of right now, you can preview the new album via the single track “Outta My Head.” It’s a slow, grinding number similar to what you’d get if you mixed The Cramps with the guitar-solo insanity of—hell, I dunno, someone who really digs guitar solos.
