Flagpole Premieres: k i d s, ‘Give it Up’ Video

Welcome to Flagpole Premieres, where we debut new and exclusive material from local artists.

Since its inception, Jared Collins’ k i d s project has become less of an enigma, solidifying into something sleek and sure. This doesn’t mean it’s any less exciting; with each release—and there are lots of them—the group, which finally features a steady cast of characters thanks to Velocirapture‘s unforeseen but brilliant assignment as Collins’ backing band, continues to hone its sound in unexpected ways.

The video for “Give It Up,” a slow, soulful jam that’s on this year’s AthFest compilation CD and sounds like molasses dripping from a hot lightbulb, features Collins wandering through a lush, wooded area and walking past various hooded figures, before ultimately settling down next to a creek. Like the band’s music, it’s pretty and mysterious and just the slightest bit presumptuous.

k i d s plays Flagpole’s AthFest showcase at the Georgia Theatre on Saturday, June 22.
