Flagpole Premieres: Hidden Hare, “Broken”

Rabbit Hole Studios—recording studio, event space, creative hub, community garden and more—is in the early stages of creating a decentralized record label, Hidden Hare. The label operates on a DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) hosted on the Ethereum network in collaboration with digital infrastructure providers like Sapien Network and the fast, affordable and environmentally-friendly Polygon sidechain. The structure of this label is based on the artists who contribute being collective owners of the content produced.

“[It is] essentially kind of like a storefront, a shared treasury, where we can both display our art together and then decide democratically on chain, without any human intermediary or CEO or anything, to just be able to create a true community entity that is beyond anyone’s control, and that hopefully rewards artists more so than traditional record labels,” says Rabbit Hole Studios owner Nick Bradfield.

Hidden Hare is essentially a private gallery of art and music that exists digitally and can be shared with those who donate to or purchase the work. Rabbit Hole Studios hosts Full Moon Jams open to the public as a time to come create art and music with access to the organization’s resources, from art supplies to instruments. For creatives interested in participating in Hidden Hare or learning more about NFTs and how to make digital art, the Full Moon Jams are a great opportunity to learn and get involved.

Today, Hidden Hare is premiering its first track, “Broken.” It’s an original song written by Bradfield and performed live during the last Summer Solstice Festival at the studio. Accompanying Bradfield (vocals, classical guitar) are Sean Conlon (bass), Keaton Wheeler (mandolin) and Victoria Austin (percussion). This song and others will be available to stream for free on the Rabbit Hole Studios website.

For an opportunity to experience the space, Rabbit Hole Studios’ quarterly festival is taking place this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23–24 from 2–11:45 p.m. Carnifall will feature carnival games, food, vendors, prizes and live music all for $10 each day.
