The Mountain Goats have hit the road to tour behind its critically acclaimed new album, Jenny from Thebes. The album was released on Merge Records and is the 22nd studio album that the group has released since its formation in Claremont, CA in 1991. The new album is a saga and melodrama filled with characters in a story that stretches across every song in the album. Jenny from Thebes is also a sequel to the 2002 album, All Hail West Texas, and is an effective project that has helped the lead singer, John Darnielle, to expand his sonic palette. The album follows the story of Jenny and her Southwestern ranch style house. It is a story about standing out and being a shelter for those who have none. The character is also on the run, which makes for turns and twists within the journey of the music, from a storytelling and audible standpoint.
