Created by Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky, The Nutcracker has been a Christmas staple since the late 1800s. A Russian ballet that has become famous around the world, it follows the story of Clara and her nutcracker, which is gifted to her on Christmas Eve by her uncle. After the nutcracker breaks and her uncle fixes it, she steals away from her bed that night to check on the nutcracker. She is then transported on a journey of magic and whimsy as the nutcracker turns into a prince and takes her through a fantasy land. The Classic Center is hosting the State Ballet of Ukraine’s production, which includes holiday favorites including “Waltz of the Flowers,” “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” and “Waltz of the Snowflakes.”
