Athens musician Michael Wegner is performing a show at The Foundry to celebrate the release of his debut solo album, Hive Mined. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his songs influenced by a wide range of bands such as The Beatles, Nick Drake, The Replacements, Madonna, Rush, Jerry Garcia and Weird Al Yankovic. This mixture of sound and genre has resulted in a folksy, fun indie-alternative genre of its own. He is a firm believer that taking influences from many different genres results in something new. Music shouldn’t be limited in Wegner’s eyes. A fixture of the Athens music scene since the mid-’80s, Wegner has collaborated with over 50 bands and songwriters, and is best known for his work with Whisper Kiss, Abbey Road LIVE!, Cosmic Charlie, Fuzzy Sprouts and Artie Ball Swing Band. Wegner will perform the 10 new songs of his debut album, accompanied by members of Check The Signs, Hog-eyed Man, Wonderland Rangers and Caroline Aiken, the latter of whom will play a set to open the night.
