Singer-songwriter and former Athenian Caroline Noel Beverley is celebrating the release of her new album, Flag Athens, at Hendershot’s. Beverly is currently the mandolin player of Klezmer Local 42, who will also perform this evening, and has been a founding member of Blue Stockings, Calliope Fair, Curley Maple and the Kenney-Blackmon String Band. She also played in Wild Gumbo with Vernon Thornsberry, who provided the album’s cover art as well as inspiration for the song “Vernon’s Jigsaw.” Her music reflects the experiences she has had in life from her music career to her personal life to her travels. A resident of North Carolina for the past decade, her most recent solo album is centered around her time spent between Flagstaff, AZ and Athens. Some of the songs on the album were created long ago but have now surfaced in this release for audiences to enjoy.
