Kurt Vile and The Violators are making their way back to Athens to play at the 40 Watt Club alongside alt-country act Florry. A Philadelphia native, Vile started playing music at the age of 14, when his dad gifted him a banjo. After working in Boston for a few years, he moved back to Philly and formed the band The War on Drugs in 2005 with fellow singer-songwriter Adam Granduciel. Vile took on the role of lead guitarist, and the band released its debut album titled Wagonwheel Blues in 2008. During the same year, Vile released his first solo album, Constant Hitmaker, and subsequently decided to leave The War on Drugs. He proceeded to release seven albums, as well as a second album with his former band, The War on Drugs. With his current band, The Violators, Vile plays lead guitar alongside Jesse Trbovich alternating on saxophone, bass guitar and keys, Kyle Spence (of Athens legends Harvey Milk) on drums, and Adam Langellotti on bass guitar and keyboard. Doors to the show will open at 7 p.m., and music will begin at 8 p.m.
