Beth Thompson’s Portals: At the Intersection of Landscape and Self is a newly published photography book and deck of cards that offers opportunities for introspection and contemplation in the natural world. Inspired by the travels of naturalist William Bartram, she took her camera through parts of Georgia, Florida, Alabama and the Carolinas, turning the lens to all sorts of interesting plants, animals and bodies of water. Presented in her signature “Possible Perceptions” style, the images are modified into kaleidoscopic patterns that mimic the fractal geometry that occurs in nature. The accompanying exhibition will remain on view in the Visitor Center through Dec. 1.
