Several activist groups—Athens for Everyone, Our Revolution: Athens Area Progressives, the Georgia Climate Change Coalition, Environment Georgia and BikeAthens—are coming together to kick off a campaign demanding action on climate change. The event is part of a global network of rallies and events (riseforclimate.org) encouraging community leaders and decision-makers to eliminate fossil fuels and implement policies for 100 percent renewable energy. Mayor-elect Kelly Girtz and District 2 Commissioner Mariah Parker have been invited to publicly share their commitment towards leading the change. The event includes additional speakers and live music, as well as the market’s food and craft vendors.
