Hovvdy, O Key

Austin, TX duo Hovvdy (pronounced “howdy”; yeah, I dislike that bandname trend as much as you do) specializes in a cozy, discreet brand of indie rock that should endear it to fans of slowcore forebears like Bedhead and The American Analog Set. The group released its second full-length, Cranberry, in February, a searching, understated LP that is one of the year’s highlights so far. “Easy,” a recently released single, follows in the album’s sepia-toned footsteps and is out Oct. 5 in 7-inch form as part of Saddle Creek’s Document Series. Hovvdy hits Athens Friday evening with support from local project O Key, aka Art Contest’s Cole Monroe.
