Sleeping Beauty

The second of Tchaikovsky’s three ballets, Sleeping Beauty has survived for over a century, making it one of the most widely recognized scores in the world. Performed by the State Ballet Theatre of Russia, the production features traditional choreography modeled after the Bolshoi Ballet. Based on the Brothers Grimm’s version of Charles Perrault’s fairy tale La belle au bois dormant, the story stars a princess who has been cursed by an evil fairy into a 100-year slumber that can only be broken by a prince’s kiss. A lecture will be offered 45 minutes before each performance in the Balcony Theatre, room 400 in the Fine Arts building.
