Celebrate Independence Day with a dazzling display of fireworks. Live music, children’s activities and food trucks will be centered on Washington Street (between Lumpkin and Jackson) and College Avenue (between Hancock and Broad). Spearheaded by the Athens Downtown Development Authority, the festival was launched last year after the tradition of fireworks at Georgia Square Mall was discontinued. Additional celebrations include fireworks and live music at Southern Brewing Company on July 1 and at the Oconee Veterans Park on July 4. Outside of Athens, the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center and the City of Loganville will separately host patriotic events on July 1. Check Flagpole’s calendar for full listings.
