Winter Wonder Slam

Athens’ homegrown metal scene could generously be described as close-knit, in that the same handful of musicians have historically popped up in varying band configurations over the years. But there is a steadily growing heavy-music presence downtown, centered around the Caledonia Lounge, where the New Metal Order collective began hosting well-attended events back in 2012. Saturday’s Slam features local thrashers Beast Mode, whose pummeling Blood Moon LP was an unjustly overlooked standout of 2016, as well as Atlanta-area groups Kings Peak and Control the Devastator. Plus, a rare headlining set from long-running local Christian prog-metal group Theocracy.
