Exploring the desexualization of the female body and the absurdity of gender-based double standards surrounding nudity, photographer Grant Beecher’s “Lewd Appearances” is an invitation into a culture of body acceptance and equality. Portraits of nearly 30 women reflect a range of physical appearances and cultural backgrounds, focusing on the humanness of each subject. Without overt sexual stimuli, the viewer is challenged to contemplate how they perceive and respond to nudity. Black-and-white silver gelatin prints of each portrait will be available to purchase through Sunday night. The series is dedicated to collaborator Laura Conroy, who passed away in October, and proceeds will be donated in her name to The Cottage.
