Cindy Wilson

One of Athens’ most influential former residents returns to town Saturday evening to give folks a taste of her long-awaited upcoming solo album. Wilson, a founding member of the B-52s, teased the new record earlier this year by releasing a two-minute YouTube trailer. Where her B’s bandmate Kate Pierson’s first-ever solo effort, last year’s Guitars and Microphones, was mostly a funky-fresh ode to her new wave past, Wilson’s current work appears to touch compellingly on skittish electronics and sun-dappled psychedelia. Past and present are well represented on Saturday’s 40 Watt lineup, which also features the Pylon Reenactment Society and Monsoon.
