Loosen the Bible Belt

When Kristen Becker, founder of Dykes of Hazard Comedy, stumbled upon the documentary One Punk Under God, she was introduced to Pastor Jay Bakker, the son of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker who co-founded the Revolution Church back in the mid-’90s. The heavily tattooed, punk rock theologian’s revelation that the LGBTQ community has been unfairly cast out from churches resonated with Becker, who then reached out to set up the Loosen the Bible Belt Tour. Traveling across the South in a veggie oil-powered tour bus, the performers use comedy, scripture and music to confront barriers to achieving equality. Opening acts include The Heavenly Chillbillies, comedian Dwayne Duke and “saucy ukulele player” SarahRose Marie.
