The Athens Wine Weekend kicks off Friday at 5:30 p.m. with an amuse-bouche—a French concept meaning “surprise for the mouth”—featuring one-bite, wine-paired samplers by five Georgian chefs. Visitors to Saturday’s Grand Tasting, held from 1–5 p.m., can sample a vast selection of international wines and choose from nine seminars held throughout the afternoon that survey topics such as tasting, styles, food pairing and bottle collection. The day concludes with a six-course gourmet dinner expertly paired with wine at 6:30 p.m. Sunday’s brunch, from 12–2 p.m., offers classic Southern dishes and specialty mimosas. The weekend’s events support the Classic Center Cultural Foundation, which provides community support and student scholarships in the arts.
