Stuffed Burger Is Closed, Local Table Is Open and More Food News

Drew Meyer of Stuffed Burger confirms that his restaurant is now closed, partially due to his partners relocating to Atlanta and partially due to lots of burger competition (it’s a crowded field), but he said he hopes to reopen it in a larger city.

Kiki’s Bakeshop, in downtown Watkinsville, is moving in the opposite direction, expanding its offerings to include a hot breakfast and lunch in the space next door, formerly occupied by Big Easy Cafe. The new spot is called Local Table and can be reached at 706-310-4188. Breakfast and lunch will get running Sept. 9 and serve Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.–2 p.m., with Saturday brunch from 9 a.m.–1:30 p.m. You can get homemade biscuits, egg dishes, meat and three plates, sandwiches, salads and any number of desserts made at Kiki’s.

Highwire Lounge, connected to Trappeze, has added a late-night food menu that includes “delicious chicken salad sliders, chips with black bean & corn salsa, chef’s choice flavored popcorn and selected desserts.”

Two worthy fundraising farm-to-table events are coming up soon, and it would be easy to confuse them. Athens Farmers Market is presenting its fourth annual Autumn Harvest Feast at The Hill on Oct. 4, at 4 p.m., with tickets at $75 (you can buy them online here), benefiting Wholesome Wave. One week later, on Oct. 11, is Athens Land Trust’s seventh annual Harvest Moon Dinner, on Williams Farm, with Peter Dale cooking. Tickets for the latter are $150, and there are details on purchasing them here. Go to one. Go to both. Stuff yourself and enjoy the relative lack of mosquitos.

Coming up a little sooner (Sept. 18) is Heirloom Cafe’s DaySpring Farms dinner, highlighting the Danielsville farm but held in the air-conditioned restaurant. Tickets are $45 (three vegetarian courses plus aperitif and passed hors d’oeuvres; tack on $15 for wine pairings), ad you get to meet the farmers. Call 706-354-7901 for reservations.

Finally, if you’ve seen a rainbow umbrella set up in Five Points recently, know that it does indeed belong to King of Pops, which has expanded rather than moved from its downtown street corner.
