Nicaragua

Perhaps, during the holidays, we could all look more closely at the daily lives of citizens from Central America for us to feel the bond that connects our humanity.

I lived multiple years in Nicaragua, and many friends and family have called to report that it hasn’t been an easy 2018 for most Nicaragüense. By midsummer, over 300 people were reported killed by the Ortega government. Citizens reported snipers on the rooftops shooting at the population, terrorizing all.

Today, things seem to have calmed, and hopefully, a wonderful season is ahead. As we gather at holiday meals and hold our families close, we can also understand the need for asylum and urge our government to hold to our values of honoring those fleeing bloodshed.
