Revive the Athens Human Rights Festival

It was with great sadness that I read Drago Tesanovich’s farewell to the Human Rights Festival in the July 27 issue. Imagine my surprise as a freshman at the university in the spring of 1983 when I wandered through College Square (goodness gracious, why didn’t we close that off forty years ago?) and found not only people with views with which I aligned, but also those with which I diverged. Many fond memories of the HRF are close to my heart, but none closer than the time my mother, who passed away several years ago, was able to see me perform in a band live on stage for the first and only time in her life.

Kids, you don’t know what you missed, but I encourage you to pick up where the many, many, many volunteers left off and move progress forward in a way that benefits all of humanity rather than the elite few.
