CCSD Announces Location for Superintendent Candidate Forum

A forum Monday with the finalist(s) for Clarke County School District superintendent will be held at Whitehead Road Elementary, the district announced today.

Whitehead is in the northwest corner of the county, at least a 20-minute drive from the Eastside and not on a bus line. Why such an inconvenient location?

“Much of our community has not had the opportunity to visit Whitehead Road Elementary School,  which is truly an incredible learning environment,” CCSD spokeswoman Anisa Sullivan Jimenez said. “We hope individuals will come and see their tax dollars at work at this important community event.”

The $16 million building was completed in 2015.

At the 6 p.m. forum Apr. 3, parents, teachers and concerned citizens will have the opportunity to question the between one and three finalists for superintendent that the Clarke County Board of Education is selecting this week. Board members set the date for the forum weeks ago but did not annouce a location until today.

Board members will observe the finalists’ interactions with the public and use that input to help choose a replacement for Philip Lanoue, who stepped down in December, the following day.

Former Henry County superintendent and University of Georgia professor and administrator Jack Parish is serving as interim superintendent.
