Athens Power Rankings for the Week of July 25

Welcome to Athens Power Rankings. In the spirit of sports rating systems, through painstaking analysis, we rank the top movers and shakers in the Classic City each week. Who’s hot? Who’s not? Find out below.

1. Terrapin Beer Co.

The local company sold a majority stake to MillerCoors’ craft-beer division—which means a wider distribution area, among other things. (It’s worth noting that not everyone has applauded the development.)

2. Pylon

The iconic Athens post-punk group’s new live album captures a 1983 performance at the Mad Hatter club downtown. Check out this week’s cover story.

3. Andrew Lundstrom

The recent college grad is heading up an effort to revive the historic UGA botanical garden off West Broad Street. See this week’s issue for more.

4. The B-52s

Another iconic Classic City band provided this week’s theme music for the animated series “Squidbillies.”

5. ACC Commission

Commissioners are fast-tracking an anti-discrimination ordinance and are poised to extend free bus service for youth for another year.
