Jim Pinneau of Winterville is the first local homeowner to add solar panels to his roof through Solarize Athens, a program that gets home- and business owners bulk rates on rooftop solar-panel installation, which they can use to power their homes and either reduce their power bills or sell their excess energy to utilities.
Colleen McLoughlin of Environment Georgia, Mayor Nancy Denson and Montana Busch of Alternative Energy Southeast, the contractor that installed the panels, were on hand for a ribbon-cutting event this morning.
