Athens Power Rankings for the Week of Nov. 30

Welcome to Athens Power Rankings. In the spirit of sports rating systems, through painstaking analysis, we rank the top movers and shakers in the Classic City each week. Who’s hot? Who’s not? Find out below.

1. World leaders at the Paris climate talks

A high-stakes climate change summit is underway in Paris, and Flagpole (along with dozens of other alternative weeklies) is running a series of letters to future generations written by notable local and national writers, artists, scientists and activists—some funny, some hopeful, others dark. To kick things off, Rich Rusk of the Georgia Climate Change Coalition shares words of wisdom from Al Gore and his dad, Secretary of State Dean Rusk.

2. Greg McGarity

Disgruntled Dawgs fans got their wish: Sunday, McGarity, UGA’s athletics director, fired/accepted Coach Mark Richt’s resignation. This means we’re definitely gonna win a national championship next year, right? Right?

3. Drive-By Truckers

Our review calls the Truckers’ recently released third live album, It’s Great to Be Alive, “the most comprehensive and essential collection of DBT’s illustrious career.”

4A. Sharyn Dickerson

4B. Andy Herod

These two Athens-Clarke County commissioners have a big task: Revitalize the Eastside. But don’t worry, they have a plan. Read more in this week’s City Dope.
