Welcome to Athens Power Rankings. In the spirit of sports rating systems, through painstaking analysis, we rank the top movers and shakers in the Classic City each week. Who’s hot? Who’s not? Find out below.

1. Todd Gurley

Blame the refs, the secondary, Mike Bobo’s play-calling or Hutson Mason’s boneheaded intentional grounding for Georgia’s 38–35 loss to South Carolina. But don’t blame TG3.  Gurley racked up 131 yards on the ground—not including a 54-yard touchdown run that was called back on a BS holding penalty. At least one publication thinks he’s the Heisman Trophy frontrunner.

2. Michelle Davis

The former Flagpole music editor got Athens involved in BandSwap, a program where we (as the name might suggest) swap bands with Fort Collins, CO. Read more in the upcoming issue.

3. Phil Johnson

Athens recently lost a favorite son. Pete paid tribute in Pub Notes: “Phil Johnson would, in all likelihood, have been mayor of Athens, had his faculties not been slowed by the spinal meningitis that he contracted as an infant.”

4. Steve and Mandy O’Shea

Did you know? The 3 Porch Farm proprietors are among only a handful of people who are cultivating organic flowers on a commercial scale. Jodi Cash profiles them in Wednesday’s edition of The Locavore.

5. Uber

Controversy over the online ride-sharing service continues as Atlanta cab drivers became the latest group to sue.
