Athens Power Rankings for the Week of July 14

Welcome to Athens Power Rankings. In the spirit of sports rating systems, through painstaking analysis, we rank the top movers and shakers in the Classic City each week. Who’s hot? Who’s not? Find out below.

1. Melissa Link

1a. Rachel Watkins

The ladies that top this week’s list will face off in a runoff election for District 3 commissioner next Tuesday, July 22. Still undecided? Let Pete be your guide. And check this week’s Flagpole for in-depth Q&As with both candidates.

3. Megabus

The low-cost bus service announced it will offer service from Athens to three new cities on the Eastern seaboard. Here’s hoping it’ll run on time

4. Sprockets

No longer an adjunct to AthFest, the music video festival strikes out on its own with a weekend of events and trade talks. See this week’s paper for more.

5. Circulatory System

Following a packed album release show at the Caledonia last weekend, the local psych-pop group heads out on tour with Neutral Milk Hotel. (They’ll play the Pitchfork Music Festival Saturday, and guess what? Flagpole will be there. Stay tuned to Homedrone for coverage.)
