Athens voters head to the polls today to elect a nonpartisan mayor and three commissioners, as well as vote in Republican or Democratic primaries for U.S. Senate, Congress and statewide offices.
Before you vote, check out our guide to the local election. The Georgia Secretary of State’s site can tell you whether you’re registered and what districts you’re in, and the Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections has sample ballots, a list of polling places and other information. As always, don’t forget a photo ID.
A few reminders: Polls opened at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. You must vote in your designated precinct, and you cannot vote downtown at the Board of Elections today.
Three polling places have changed since 2012: Voters in precinct 1B, formerly East Athens Baptist Church, now vote at Gaines Elementary School. Precinct 1C, formerly Barnett Shoals Elementary, is now at Whit Davis Elementary along with precinct 1D. Precinct 7A, formerly Timothy Baptist, has moved to Timothy Road Elementary. Signs have been posted at all the old sites.
Turnout is expected to be very low. Your vote counts.
