Athens Power Rankings for the Week of Apr. 21


Welcome to Athens Power Rankings. In the spirit of sports rating systems, through painstaking analysis, we rank the top movers and shakers in the Classic City each week. Who’s hot? Who’s not? Find out below.

1. Gene Dixon

The guy behind the Twilight Criterium takes the top spot as the annual cycling event prepares to take over downtown this weekend, bringing an estimated 25,000 revelers with it. 

2. Creature Comforts Brewery

Speaking of revelry—the much-anticipated craft brewery starts serving up its sudsy stuff Saturday. Watch for this week’s Flagpole for more.

3. Adam Klein

The third spot goes to the man in charge of the Athens Americana Music Festival, which returns for a seventh edition starting Thursday and continues throughout the Twilight weekend.

4. Adam Newman

The formerly Athens-based funnyman previewed material from an upcoming Comedy Central special last night at Caledonia. There were no incidents involving hard drugs.

5. The Woggles

The formerly Athens-based garage-rockers return for their first local show since 2007. Check this week’s Flagpole music section for more.
