The luxury student apartment trend in Athens is spilling over into Oconee County.

Blogger and University of Georgia journalism professor Lee Becker reports that a 190-unit, 784-bedroom townhouse development called Athens Ridge is under construction at a former mobile home park on Old Macon Highway near McNutt Creek.

Bedrooms will rent for $420–499 per month, and amenities will include a shuttle to UGA, tanning spa, fitness center, game room, pool, hot tubs, lazy river ride and clubhouse.

Plans have also been filed for a “specialty retail center,” restaurant and boardwalk across the street called The Falls of Oconee, according to Becker.
