Local Food and More at UGA Entrepreneurial Week

Lots of cool stuff is going on at the University of Georgia’s Entrepreneurial Week. Here are a few highlights:

Today from 11 a.m.-2 p.m at the Tate Center, student entrepreneurs discuss how to turn ideas into profits. Speakers will include Harman Johar, who sells food products made from insects. Yes, samples will be provided.

At 1 p.m. at the Tate Center, the founders of King of Pops and High Road Craft Ice Cream will tell you how to start your own food business.

At 6:30 p.m., Steve Nygren, who developed the south Atlanta sustainable community Serenbe, will talk at the Miller Learning Center about producing and distributing food locally.

A panel discussion on social entrepreneurship at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Georgia Center features Judith Pickens, a retired Boys & Girls Club executive, and Chris McDowell, who runs a program at UGA that builds structures out of reclaimed construction waste.

Three local biotech company owners talk about their work at a noon discussion Tuesday at the Coverdell Center.

A Wednesday afternoon conference at the Georgia Center features women who are trailblazers in their fields.

At 8 p.m. Thursday, there’s a networking event at the Terrapin Beer Co. brewery.

At 2 p.m. Friday at the Special Collections Library with a panel discussion among UGA alumni who started their own businesses.

The week wraps up with Songs at Cine at 7 p.m. Friday. R.E.M.’s Mike Mills, Don Chambers, Hardy Morris, Thayer Serrano and Dave Marr will swap off playing each others’ songs to raise money for a digital projector.
