Ordinarily, Flagpole doesn’t care much for chains (see this week’s Pub Notes). But we’re making an exception for Steak ‘N’ Shake.
With the possible exception of Trader Joe’s, I’ve never seen this much excitement over a corporate establishment coming to Athens. So when we received an invitation to attend the new location’s soft opening on Tuesday, even Pete McCommons jumped at the chance. Yes, it was delicious.
Even better, the restaurant will employ 135 people and hopefully contribute to the West Broad Street corridor’s revitalization.

The official grand opening is 9 a.m. Thursday.
