At long last, the Steak ‘n Shake occupying the former address of Thai of Athens will open on Thursday, Nov. 15. But that doesn’t give the right picture of how long Athens has been waiting to sink its collective teeth into the steakburgers the chain is famous for. I feel like when I started this beat, people were talking about us getting a branch of the franchise, and those rumors have been popping up every now then for years. Well, rumors no more. Burgers, shakes, onion rings, yum.
Rustica Latin Restaurant, in the former Las Conchitas Caliente on Prince in Normaltown, is also open, with a Facebook page largely in Spanish.
Dirty Birds, doing wings at 312 Washington St. downtown, will open the day of the Georgia Tech game, Nov. 24.
