Newly elected District 3 Athens-Clarke County Commissioner Melissa Link should, by the time she takes her seat behind the rail in January, be the best-prepared newbie ever to join the commission. She’s got five more months to study the issues and continue to watch commission proceedings from the audience at City Hall. None of that will make any difference, anyway, according to the commissioner who confronted me in a local restaurant last week and angrily told me that Melissa wouldn’t be able to get anything done on the commission. Sounds like those who didn’t want her there are planning to give her the old cold shoulder and try to freeze her out.
