Today, the Southedelic roots rockers in Heart of Pine share a video for “Gone,” a song featured on the band’s sophomore full-length album, Southern Soul Revival, which was released last month.
“‘Gone’ was written about the Flint River, which runs through mine and Travis Richardson’s hometown,” says guitarist and vocalist Steven Bagwell, who grew up in Thomaston, GA, just west of Macon. “It’s about never really feeling like I necessarily belong anywhere, but being surrounded by an overwhelming sense of being ‘home’ when I’m out on the river.”
The video was filmed at Ear Bonez Studio as part an ongoing series called Ear Bonez Sessions that spotlights local singer-songwriters through stripped-down, intimate performances.
“Roth Conrad has a beautiful thing going at Ear Bonez and was a pleasure to work with,” says Bagwell. “Ear Bonez is a hobby for Roth, but the term hobby is definitely an understatement. He really went all out for it. His gear is top notch and working with him felt comfortable from the start which is imperative for a project such as this.”
There are two opportunities to see Heart of Pine play live this week. Heart of Pine will join the Jesse Williams Band at The Foundry on Friday, Sept. 20, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and tickets running $10 in advance or $15 at the door. On Saturday, Sept. 21, the band will headline the Bishop Boogie, an outdoor festival that also features Mary Kate Farmer, Rick Fowler Band, A.D. Blanco and Aermotor on the lineup. Held near the intersection of Old Bishop Rd. and Railroad St. from 11 a.m.–8 p.m., the free festival includes a beer garden, food trucks, vendors and a kids zone.
