In celebration of the 40th anniversary of R.E.M.’s debut EP Chronic Town, the 40 Watt Club hosted a tribute show on Wednesday, Dec. 14. Hosted by comedian David Cross, the star-studded lineup included Rich Robinson, Sven Pipien, Barrett Martin, Darius Rucker, Indigo Girls, John Cameron Mitchell, Fred Armisen, Kevn Kinney, Lenny Kaye, Mitch Easter, Steve Wynn, David Ryan Harris, Elf Power, Pylon Reenactment Society, Thayer Sarrano, John Driskell Hopkins and other special guests. R.E.M. members Mike Mills and Peter Buck joined friends on stage for several songs, and everyone headed to the Coca-Cola Roxy in Atlanta the next night for a second round. The two shows raised over $100,000 to donate to Planned Parenthood.
