Peter Buck Announces ‘Magnum Opus’ Warzone Earth

Buck yeah! Yesterday, R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck announced via the band’s site that he’s got a new solo record on the way. Warzone Earth is out Oct. 16 via Portland, OR-based Mississippi Records, and folks will be able to pre-order the vinyl-only release here.

In the post, Buck dubs Warzone Earth his “magnum opus,” before continuing:

All kidding aside, it’s the best solo record I have made, and I’m excited for it to be out in the world. It’s available through littleaxerecords.com who distributes the record. It should also be available in all the cool independent record stores in your neighborhood, once again, vinyl only, but feel free to make a cassette for your friends.

Stereogum reports that the album, which features two alternate covers designed by artist Mingering Mike, includes contributions from an impressive lineup of alt-rock A-listers, including Scott McCaughey, Jeff Tweedy, Bill Rieflin, Krist Novoselic and Kurt Bloch.
