Re: Up is an ongoing, circumstantial offering of referential tunes that honor influential standbys from days gone by. Some call them “classics.” You’ll need both versions to stand on firm ground, but given the ancient touchstones, maybe you’ll reach highest when you listen in synchronicity.

Given the depth of ghetto house, juke, and footwork to come out of Chicago since the release of the original Percolator by the iconic Cajmere, there can probably be no definitive remix of the track. I’m taking this into account here and on most tracks to come, as I give to you ‘Percolator Meme,’ by TEETH, which presents what could be called a new motif of the Percolator progression. Alright, so “Bring in the Katz” isn’t old. But I’d say we can call it a modern classic, when we consider how this subtly sculpted update of the recent tune gives us a clearer view of what it is we might like within. That, and it’s the first reissue to be released by the venerable Night Slugs label. [2010]
