Slutty Vegan to Open on Sunday and More Food News

The Athens location of Atlanta’s franchise Slutty Vegan will open to the public this Sunday at 700 Baxter Street. Generally, the restaurant will be open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch, dinner and late night. Its menu of burgers, sandwiches and snacks is 100% vegan, but founder Pinky Cole bills it as vegan without the sacrifice, focusing on indulgence rather than abstemiousness.

Southern Culture Fish and Grits, on Hawthorne Avenue, has closed.

The Eastside location of Marco’s Pizza, on Gaines School Road, in the former Your Pie that shares a building with Dunkin’, is open.

The restaurant focuses on breakfast and lunch, meaning a lot of a.m. food on that lot, which will also house the Athens location of Café Racer (currently going up in the parking lot).

Hangar 54 Pizza and Champ’s Chicken, two generally gas station-based franchises, are open in the Amoco on North Avenue, in front of the Piggly Wiggly.

Athens is getting two locations of Texas-based fast food franchise Whataburger, one in front of the Eastside Lowe’s and the other on Atlanta Highway, near its intersection with Timothy Road.

A location of Korean/Thai/U.S. doughnut franchise Mochinut, which focuses on rice-flour-based doughnuts and (what else) bubble tea, is coming to the Eastside’s Georgetown Village shopping center, near Barberitos.

Kelly’s Jamaican has closed its Epps Bridge location but remains very much open on Lumpkin Street.
