Athens-Clarke County police are once again asking the public for help solving the murder of Daniel Macias nine years ago.
Macias, a 28-year-old Agua Linda server, was shot and killed at about 2:35 a.m. on Aug. 13, 2016 while walking along Hancock Avenue in front of the courthouse parking deck.
No cameras caught the killing, although authorities were able to identify a “person of interest” who was walking near the same location around the same time. Today, the case remains under active investigation, according to police.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 award for information leading to an arrest, and the Macias family is adding $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
Anyone with information can contact detectives Matt Cawthorn (762-400-7431; [email protected]) or Gary Mitchell (762-400-7101; [email protected]), or call the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 706-705-4775.
