Clarke County voters overwhelmingly approved a new round of sales tax projects Tuesday to fund school construction and equipment.
ESPLOST 6, which is expected to raise $120 million over five years, will pay for a new Clarke Middle School, among other projects. It passed with 3,301 votes to 901 opposed, a nearly four-to-one margin.
In Clarke County’s only other election today, Melissa Metzger defeated Mark Farmer for a post on the Winterville City Council 145 votes to 65.
In Oconee County, voters turned down an opportunity to raise the sales tax to fund transportation projects and re-elected Brian Brodrick mayor of Watkinsville.
