Join tour guide, Irene Gilree, for a tour of Newtown, one of several historic Black neighborhoods in Athens celebrated for its cultural and architectural significance. Located northwest of Downtown, it is roughly bounded by Barber Street, Cleveland Avenue, College Avenue and the Bobby Snipes Water Resource Center. On this tour, attendees will learn the history of this neighborhood, those that have lived there, significant landmarks and the architecture of homes and buildings in the area. The tour will last approximately two hours. Attendees are asked to bring a mask, wear comfortable shoes and bring an umbrella as the tour will still be conducted in light rain.
