Three-time Grammy Award-nominated vocal ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock is renowned for its vibrant live performances that mix gospel music, blues and spirituals. Since its formation in Washington, D.C. in 1973, the women-led, African American ensemble has recorded 24 albums and gained a reputation as international ambassadors for a cappella and lyricism. The group has played in esteemed venues on almost every continent, including a whopping 32 performances at Carnegie Hall in New York. One of the ensemble’s priorities is to spread a core message of equality, empowerment, education, peace, love, solidarity and nondenominational spirituality through its music. Its dedication to these principles even earned an invite to perform at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service. The show in Athens will feature an American Sign Language interpretation.
