Weedeater, Pröwess

The latest in a string of legendary sludge-rockers to barrel through Athens this summer, North Carolina band Weedeater has made a career out of putting a Southern spin on stoner metal, as evidenced by album titles like 2001’s …And Justice for Y’all and the twangy, pummeling riffage therein. The group, which previously survived shotgun accidents and a slew of injuries, suffered a serious loss when drummer Carlos Denogean died last year. Though the band’s most recent release is 2015’s muggy, Steve Albini-produced Goliathan, Weedeater continues to rack up the miles on the touring van and brings its signature brand of Carolina doom to the Caledonia Wednesday with Charlotte rockers Pröwess in tow.
