Downtown Athens plays host to an early birthday party for the United States of America, which continues to limp along at the ripe old age of 243. Clayton Street will be closed for the event between College Avenue and Thomas Street. Cover band The Funk Brotherhood provides the music, while Ladybug Events provide kids’ activities. Cool treats will be available from Hokulia Shave Ice, Kona Ice, Lil’ Ice Cream Dude and La Michoacana… es Natural. Fireworks will be launched from the Classic Center parking deck around 9:30 p.m. and can be viewed throughout the downtown area, as well as from North Campus.
