Begun in 2012 to bolster its slow summer concert calendar and celebrate its regulars at the same time, The Foundry’s Motown Downtown series presents two consecutive nights of smooth, soulful Motown classics courtesy of two long-running local outfits. The fun kicks off Friday evening with The Sensational Sounds of Motown, whose members have played and toured with Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight and other luminaries. Saturday concludes with a performance by Grains of Sand, a talented group of local players known for their expert session work and reverent takes on classic beach music, soul, R&B and more.
